City outskirts to have more cops

In a bid to deal with the even-odd formula and to maintain smooth movement of traffic in the city from January 1, Delhi Traffic Police will deploy more police force at strategic points near the outskirts of the Capital to keep an eye on the violators.

According to sources, Delhi Traffic Police has asked the concerned police of the NCR cities including Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad to cooperate with them so that the odd-even formula to curb pollution in the national Capital could be a successful initiative. “We have asked the NCR police to warn the violators hailing from the respective places to not enter Delhi until they have even registration number on even dates or vice-versa. If the active participation of the NCR police could be seen it will decrease almost 50 per cent of the workload of Delhi Traffic Police,” the source in Delhi Police added.

Around 10-15 per cent of the total vehicles moving in the city come from the NCR cities. “As the odd-even formula is applicable on the NCR vehicles too, a few strategic points near the bordering areas have been mapped out and proper police deployment of at least seven to nine cops will be made at each junction,” a senior traffic police official said. He added: “After challaning them and handing over the slip to them we will allow them to move in the city. The initiative to challan the violators bearing NCR registration numbers is taken so that at least 10-15 per cent of total traffic could be prosecuted.” The current strength of the traffic police in Delhi is around 5,500.
