City girl scores 497, tops CBSE Class XII exams

Boys recorded a pass percentage of 78.85 per cent.Sukriti Gupta of Montfort School in Delhi has topped the exams, scoring 497 marks out of 500. Girls have secured first top three positions.
“I relied on self study and followed NCERT books while preparing for exams,” Sukriti Gupta said.
“You need to get your basics right and then the rest is not that hard to crack. I have been consistent throughout and that helped me to emerge as a topper. I did not expect this, though I was sure that I would do well. This is beyond my expectations,” she said.
Sukriti has scored 100 in Physics and Chemistry, and 99 in English, Math and Computer Science.
Palak Goel, who secured second position in CBSE Class XII board examination, wants to become an IAS officer later in life, but at present her focus is to become an engineer and crack the IIT.
A student of Tagore Vanasthali Public School, Pehowa, near Kurukshetra in Haryana, she scored 496 out of 500 marks.The third position was shared between Somy Uppal from St Theresa’s Convent School in Karnal and Ajish Sekar from PSBB Senior Secondary School, Chennai. They both scored 495 marks.
Speaking over phone, Palak Goel said: “I was confident of scoring 95 per cent. It was a bit of a surprise that I got 496 marks but I am very happy that my hard work paid off. I also want to become an IAS officer.”
Palak had non-medical subjects and she scored 100 per cent in Physics, 99 per cent each in Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Physical Education, her mother Ranjana Goel said.
Palak’s mother is a housewife while her father Subhash Goel is a Commission Agent.
Sharing more details about Palak, her mother said that she was a topper from nursery right till class 12th.“She used to study seriously but she also took time off for her favourite activities like making something out of waste material, cooking and dancing. Sometimes, I used to tell her that she was not devoting enough time for her studies, but my daughter always sounded confident that she would come out with flying colours,” Ranjana said.
Chairman of the school Kimti Lal Watta said, Palak is a bright student who always believed in in-depth studies and the school management has decided to honour her with a cash reward of
Rs 1 lakh.
In a statement released in Delhi, the CBSE said that for the second consecutive year, CBSE has declared results of all ten regions on the same day.
The candidates will be able to access the results on three websites — www.results.nic.in,www.cbseresults.nic.in and www.cbse.nic.in.
Region wise, South India has done better than others. Thiruvanathapuram region is number 1 with overall pass percentage of 97.61%. Chennai was at the second place with overall pass percentage of 92.63%.
The overall pass percentage this year is 83.05 which is an improvement over last year’s 82 percent.
In all a total of 10,65,179 candidates had registered for the exam this year, a 2.38 percent increase over the number of candidates that appeared last year.
In a statement released here, the CBSE said that for the second consecutive year, CBSE has declared results of all ten regions on the same day.
The duration of examination was from March 1 to April 26 2016.The schools will automatically get their results on the email ids already registered with the Board.
Starting this year, CBSE will also provide Class XII digital mark sheets in DigiLocker at www.digilocker.gov.in.The DigiLocker account credentials will be sent to students via SMS on their mobile number registered with CBSE.
