City gets second consecutive day of showers

Rains lashed the city for the second consecutive day on Wednesday leading to water-logging and traffic snarls at important roads like Parliament Street, Ring Road, I.T.O., Aurobindo Marg, Laxmi Nagar, Moti Bagh, Badarpur, Ashram Chowk, Saket, M.G.Road, Azadpur and Kashmere Gate in north Delhi.

‘Traffic movement was slowed down in Mori Gate, Dhaula Kuan and Masjid Moth’, said a traffic official. Water-logging was also reported from Mahipalpur village, affecting traffic going from Gurgaon towards Vasant Kunj. The showers also brought the mercury level down, making the weather pleasant for Delhites. While the maximum temperature was recorded at 32.6 degrees Celsius, the minimum settled at 25.2 degrees C. Both the maximum and minimum temperatures were reported to be one degree less than normal.

Rain gauges recorded 6 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, the MeT office said. On Tuesday, the city had received 54.5 mm of rainfall, the highest this season. But Wednesday’s rain led to waterlogging and traffic snarls at areas like Rohini, Jangpura and Mandoli. The MeT department has forecast rains for the next few days as well and the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32 and 24 degrees respectively. ‘The sky will remain generally cloudy. Some spells of rain are likely in some parts of the city Thursday,’ an official of India Meteorological Department said. The monsoon is expected to continue in Delhi till 20 September.

Services were affected in the city in most parts during the peak hours of morning and evening causing severe inconvenience to thousands of commuters who rely on the modern transport system to reach their work places.
