City gets a new power sub-station

“In the last few years a lot of housing and commercial areas have come up in this area which has increased power demand manifold leading to outages in summers and overload on existing infrastructure. The substation will ensure round the clock power supply in the area,” said Harsh Vardhan.

Delhi Transco Limited, the public sector arm of Delhi’s power department, constructed the sub-station worth Rs 52 crore by using state-of-the art technologies like Gas Insulated Switch Gears. “It has a transformation capacity of 200 MVA and it is linked with 400 KV Sub Station in Mundka. The sub-station will cater to the electricity requirements of Peeragarhi, Paschim Puri, Paschim Vihar,Udhyog Nagar, Madipur, Sudarshan Park and their adjoining areas,” said Goyal.

The sub-station was planned as a project of DTL to strengthen electricity infrastructure in the city after power supply was severely hit due to heavy storms during the summer this year. The new sub-station will also relieve existing 220 KV sub-stations at Najafgarh, Pappankalan and Rohini from excess load. On this occasion, Jyoti Arora, joint secretary Ministry of Power, Amit Yadav, power secretary of Delhi government, Sanjeev Singh MD DTL were also present. The maximum power demand met by DTL in Delhi during the summer was 5925 MW on July 15.
