Civic agencies to honour teachers
The four civic bodies in the city have decided to confer awards to 113 teachers in different felicitation functions on the occasion on Teachers’ Day on Thursday. North Delhi Municipal Corporation will be awarding a maximum of 40 teachers. These teachers have been selected on the basis of their performance and calibre by a panel at various levels.
CBSE honours educators
Central Board of Secondary Education honored 16 mentors and 34 teachers for their contribution to the field of education. Minister of Human Resource Development Dr. MM Pallam Raju said, ‘Teachers are the backbone of any society. Teachers empower children to rise up to the challenge of taking the country forward. It is hence crucial to felicitate teachers who rise above the call of duty.’
Dog sterlisation camp held
Chairman of the Central Zone Ward Committee Virender Kasana on Thursday organised anti-rabies and sterlisation camp at Alaknanda in Kalkaji. Eight dogs were sterlised and 17 dogs were lifted for the anti rabies vaccine in the camp. The residents of Aravali, Shivalik, Mandakini, Narmada, Nilgiri, Gangotri, Godawari, NRI Complex and DDA Flats Kalkaji attended the Camp.
Water charges for dhobi ghats slashed to one third
In another pre-poll relief to poor class, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday got the board of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to decrease the water charges for Dhobi Ghats to around one third. The council also decreased power charges for lowest slung of population in the area. ‘The Dhobi Ghats in NDMC area were being charged on commercial rate of water which is Rs 100 per kilo litre. But after this decision the water charges for them would be around Rs 37.5 per kilo litre,’ said Jalaj Srivastava, chairman of NDMC.
Robot removes rectal cancer
Doctors at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the capital have used a robot to remove a cancer tumour in the lower abdomen of a patient, a statement from the hospital said Wednesday. A team of doctors led by Saumitra Rawat and KR Vasu successfully performed the difficult robotic surgery using a device called the ‘da Vinci Robot’ to remove a rectal cancer three days ago.
