Citizens' meet to discuss NCR power woes

On Tuesday, a citizens meet, involving the officers of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) and RWA Federation Ghaziabad was held. Taking the opportunity, citizens demanded action against the frequent power outages in the city.

A number of representatives from Indirapuram, Vasundhara, Mohan Nagar, Vijay Nagar and Kavi Nagar were present during this meet. They resolved to confront the UPPCL staff if an improvement was not noticed within a week.

But according to the Chairman of the RWA Federation Ghaziabad, Col Tejandra Pal Tyagi, the local administration was responsible for power cuts.

Earlier, RWA Federation had put up a proposal to give about 400 sq yd land in the community park of Gandhi Nagar. The proposal was cleared in a meeting with District Magistrate and the Tehsildar of the Nagar Nigam and was given no objection certificate. Five months have passed since the proposal was mooted and city commissioner is yet to give a formal approval for the same.

Residents also lamented that there is a need for a few electric cables to be crossed underneath the Railway lines at six locations in the city. But, according to them, both Railways and the local administration were being lax about it. The Federation demanded that there should be change of old lines, replacing the old jumpers, shifting of poles and maintenance of the transformer should be done regularly to check break down. The Chief Engineer DP Singh assured that all possible measures would be taken to show perceptible improvement within a week and he promised to attend to all the points raised in the meeting.

According to him, roistering schedule would be given to the Federation within 24 hours and 60 FIRs would be lodged with different police stations for the theft of power within 24 hours.
