CISF pulls up 68 for flirting with danger

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has identified at least 68 people for hanging around the Metro tracks and railings of tall stations in the first quarter of the year. The force has also seized illegal arms and ammunition carried by the commuters illegally in Delhi Metro.
According to figures compiled by the CISF, the Metro authority has fined 68 people for walking on the tracks. Out of this, as many as 16 cases were <g data-gr-id="31">registered in</g> January, 31 reported in February and 21 others came to light in March.
The data further revealed that a total of five arms and 63 ammunition were seized within the same period.
Some of the <g data-gr-id="32">commuters</g> illegally carrying it were detained by the CISF and handed over to the police. According to the data, 13 cases were registered from January to March 2015, nine in January, three in February and one in March respectively.
A total of 53 suspected <g data-gr-id="27">pick-pocketers</g> were also detained by the police from January-March, 2015. The offenders included 49 females and four males.
A total of 1,417 male passengers were apprehended from the all-women coaches of Delhi Metro between the months of January and March. “We have increased vigil and generation of mass awareness against this practice through various agencies working to secure the Delhi Metro,” said a CISF official.
The CISF, after nabbing the offenders, handed them over to the police. They are also made to pay a fine of Rs 250 under Section 64 (1) of the Delhi Metro Railway (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2000. Over the past few years, the security force has intensified its checks and patrols in coaches and its personnel travel inside the earmarked spaces in uniform to catch the offenders.
It is important to note that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) keeps one coach reserved for women passengers in each train.
