Churu rally: Rahul brings hassled Shish Ram Ola to front seat

Rahul Gandhi, AICC vice president got Shish Ram Ola, union minister for labour and employment, seated in front next to chief minister Ashok Gehlot after veteran jat leader was hassled by security while entering the venue.

A little before Gandhi arrived at rally, security personnel resisted Ola’s entry to the venue before they were  informed that he was meant to sit on dais.

Ola was sitting in rear row on dais when Gandhi climbed up there. He asked Ola to come and sit in front. For a moment, Gehlot got confused taking it as if Gandhi wanted Ola right next to him before Gandhi asked chief minister to take chair next to him and Ola, the last one. Gurudas Kamat, AICC general secretary and in charge of Rajasthan was seated on the other side of Gandhi.

PCC president Chanderbhan, also a jat leader, was seated in the row behind.

Gandhi is in jat heartland. The jat community has been supporting Congress but it turned against party when it made Gehlot the chief minister in 1998, ignoring claims of Paras Ram Maderana, a veteran jat leader.

Later Gehlot opposed jats bid to get OBC status. The region also has good population of rajputs who too aren’t aligned with Congress.
