West Indies’ dashing opening batsman Chris Gayle is likely to be ruled out of the rest of the series as he suffered a hamstring injury while attempting a single during the first ODI of the three-match series against India here Thursday. Gayle, who was run out while attempting the single, was writhing in pain after he attempted a dive in the first over off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He was stretchered off the field. The burly Jamaican was detected with muscle haematoma. He has been advised 2-4 weeks of rest. ‘He has to take rest for a few weeks as he has suffered a muscle haematoma,’ a hospital spokesperson said.
