Chinese language now part of CBSE syllabus

With China emerging as one of the major global economies and Mandarin being spoken by a large population of world, CBSE has introduced Chinese as language in Class VI from current session onwards for all CBSE affiliated schools across the country.

CBSE is already offering 34 languages at the secondary and senior secondary level, of which 10 are foreign languages, in order to cater to diverse needs of the students in a globalised world.

Vineet Joshi, chairman of CBSE, said, ‘China is one of the leading giants in manufacturing sector and this will increase the number of employment opportunities for students. After placement in China or across the world, it becomes easy for students to adjust in the local environment.’

Joshi added, ‘Specially trained teachers will teach the language in CBSE affiliated schools.’
