A mayor of a Chinese city has quit over poor salary joining ranks of growing number of officials who are deserting government jobs due to low wages.
Mei Yonghong, the Mayor of Jining in East China’s Shandong province has resigned and gone into business making him the second bureau-level official to quit office in Shandong since June, state-run China Daily reported today.
Zhang Shuhua, former deputy mayor of Heze, Shandong, resigned and joined the Shenzhen branch of China Pacific Insurance to serve as the secretary of its Party committee in June. Mei joined as an executive in Shenzhen <g data-gr-id="11">Huada</g> Gene Technology. He said in an interview in March that civil servants in China get very low wages.
