Child abducted by waiter; case cracked in 90 minutes

A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping his colleague’s four-year-old son for a ransom of Rs 60,000 in <g data-gr-id="22">northwest</g> Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar area, police said on Wednesday.
The police claimed to have solved the case in 90 minutes. The accused was identified as Mohit, a resident of Bareilly in UP. He was arrested from Old Delhi Railway Station when he was trying to flee with the boy. Both the accused and the boy’s father work as waiters at a local <g data-gr-id="25">hotel,</g> said a senior official.
The incident came to light around 10:40 pm on Tuesday when the victim’s father reported to police that his four-year-old son had been kidnapped by an unknown person. “He had received a call for ransom demanding Rs 60,000 on his mobile number for releasing his son. We registered a case and the location of the kidnapper was traced out and a team rushed to the Old Delhi Railway Station along with complainant Santosh Kumar,” said N <g data-gr-id="31">Gnana</g> Sambandan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West)
The team swiftly acted and started searching the accused at the railway platforms of Old Delhi Railway Station. During <g data-gr-id="29">search</g> at platform No 10, at the instance of <g data-gr-id="30">complainant</g>, the team traced the child with the accused person. Policemen apprehended the accused and recovered the kidnapped child safely. During interrogation, it came to fore that the accused Mohit had worked as <g data-gr-id="28">waiter</g> with the complainant. He was in the need of money. Therefore, he had kidnapped the child for earning quick money, <g data-gr-id="27">Gnana</g> Sambandan added.
