Chief Minister-designate to retain finance, power, home

A day before Arvind Kejriwal’s oath-taking ceremony as the Chief Minister of Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sources on Friday, said that the CM-designate is likely to hold the finance, home and energy ministry portfolios himself, and hand over education ministry, Public Works Department (PWD), Urban Development and Deputy CM’s post to his confidante and senior party leader, Manish Sisodia.

Similarly, Sandip Kumar (Sultanpuri Majra) will preside over women and child development; Jitendra Tomar (Tri Nagar), law; Gopal Rai (Babarpur), transport and labour; Asim Ahmed Khan (Matia Mahal), food and civil supply; and Saryendra Jain (Shakur Basti), health and industries. According to reports, Ram Niwas Goel (Shahdara) is set to be named the Speaker of the Assembly, with Bandana Kumar (Shalimar Bagh) as his deputy.

Meanwhile, President Pranab Mukherjee, on Friday, appointed Arvind Kejriwal as the Chief Minister of Delhi along with six cabinet ministers. A home ministry statement said that the President appointed Kejriwal as CM with effect from the date he is sworn in.

“The President, on the advice of the Chief Minister, has also appointed Manish Sisodia, Asim Ahmed Khan, Sandeep Kumar, Satyendar Jain, Gopal Rai and Jitender Singh Tomar as ministers of Delhi,” the statement said. Earlier, Mukherjee had revoked the order issued on February 16, 2014, under Article 239AB of the Constitution, imposing central rule in Delhi to pave way for the installation of an elected government.
