Ch’garh cabinet okays formation of corporation for road development

Several important decisions were taken during the cabinet meeting held at Mantralya (Mahanadi Bhavan) on Friday. The meeting which was chaired by Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh okayed the formation of Chhattisgarh State Road Development Corporation. 

Apart from this, the cabinet also cleared the move to increase in compensation amounts for victims of wild animal attack and formation of State Cooperative Election Committee for conducting elections of cooperative societies. After the cabinet meeting was over, PWD, housing and environment minister Rajesh Moonat gave information about the cabinet’s decisions.

He informed that Chhattisgarh State Road Development Corporation would be constituted under Public Works Department, under the chairmanship of chief minister Raman Singh. Department minister would be the deputy chairman of this corporation, while senior officials of the department concerned would be included as members.

Minister Moonat informed that ever since it was constituted, Chhattisgarh has undergone significant development in every sector, owing to which the pressure of road traffic has increased manifolds. Moreover, the present road density of state is 69.51 km per 100 sq km, whereas the national average is around 142.68 km per sq km. Besides, expedited expansion of all main roads from one lane to two lane, two lane to four lane, and from four lane to six lane is also required. In view of aforementioned requirement, department has been deliberating upon the formation of a separate corporation since long, for connecting the areas of commercial importance through development of road routes connecting them.
