The construction of central transport tower (pylon) of the Signature Bridge in Wazirabad was started on Thursday in the presence of chief minister, Sheila Dikshit.
The first consignment of 1500 tonnes, which include the pylon bases, which weigh 425 tonne each, arrived at the Signature Bridge site on 10 September, 2013. The total weight of the Pylon and Deck is 14,000 tonnes.
The second consignment has reached Kandla port and is on its way to Delhi. The third consignment is being shipped from Shanghai this month. The remaining two consignments will reach Delhi by end of this year.
The erection was done using a 1,250 tonne capacity crane, which can erect pieces up to a height of 160 m. The crane has reached the site and the pylon base will be lifted using the crane. The total weight of the steel pylon structure is 6,500 tonnes. The deck weighs 7,500 tonnes. The central pylon is being constructed by a Shanghai-based company and the asymmetrical blocks of the pylon were brought to Gujarat via sea and transported to Delhi by road from Kandla Harbour.
