Sunayana Malhotra, a Delhi based artist, presents Aham, a women centric art exhibition at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, in the national Capital. The exhibition will begin from July 2 and will continue till July 7 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm every day.
Sunayana was always encouraged to express herself through art since childhood and today is a successful artist associated with many leading interior designers to create works of art enhancing various homes and offices in and around the city. The serene beauty of a woman merging with nature is a prominent theme in her works. She has always been inspired by the ‘female form’ and reflects her thoughts through her art.
Through Aham, she has tried to portray the various stages in the life of a woman. In her artwork, she has portrayed the ‘true’ form of a woman without glamorizing it. The art tells the journey of a woman from puberty to motherhood. It also focuses on how a woman camouflages herself and looks at her changing body with disgust and the hardships she faces throughout her life.
The artist is fascinated by lotuses, which is prominent in her recent artworks, symbolising beauty, prosperity and fertility. “For me drawing the female form comes naturally, it is a way for me to express my thoughts... or reflect on them. In my recent work I have replaced the female form with the lotus which has an equally effeminate feeling and portrays the different layers of a woman,” says Sunayana, the artist.
