CBSE tells schools not to use rare specimen

Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) had instructed it’s affiliated schools across the nation to discontinue the use of specimens of rare/threatened plants and animals kept in the science laboratory or class rooms, even if it is meant for teaching and learning processes.

According to the Board, under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, no school should keep exhibits of animals and plants for teaching purposes. If any school is found involved in it, legal action would be taken by appropriate authorities under the WLP Act 1972, which is non bailable.

Wildlife Protection Act 1972 list includes pitcher plants, corals, frogs, snakes, birds, reptiles, sharks, or any part of them including skeleton, bones, foetus, feathers and skins.

CBSE has asked the schools to use the virtual images, models, photographs, videos and other alternative teaching techniques instead. According to Central zoo authority, no animals can be exhibited without permission.
