CBSE starts heritage website

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) launched its heritage website and a blog, ‘Shiksha’n’Diksha’, at the CBSE building in New Delhi, on Monday.
The board is in the process of conceptualising and formulating a heritage education programme for schools. The heritage website is part of this larger picture. The website presently has four domains–Built Heritage, Natural heritage, Performing Arts and Arts and Crafts. This portal is for the benefit of students, teachers and parents. It will constantly evolve.
Sandeep Sethi, the promoter and developer of this website, said, ‘The main aim of this website is to create awareness about India’s rich cultural heritage among our young, future decision makers and to encourage them to participate in safeguarding this legacy of our progenitors’ for our future generation.’ Along with the website, CBSE also launched a blog, Shiksha’n’Diksha, providing a platform to students, teachers and parents to express, interact, discuss and debate their views on education and how they would like the educational system to evolve.
Vineet Joshi, Chairman, CBSE, while giving the welcome address, said, ‘It is such a satisfying feeling to be part of an endeavor which seeks to inspire our future generation to learn about our past and take our country forward.’ Anshu Vaish, former Education Secretary, said ‘The heritage site will act as a resource matter for teachers and students.’
Sadhana Parashar, Director, Training, CBSE, said, ‘It has taken so much hard work and effort to create this portal and the end result is so satisfying.’
Navina Jaffa, Convenor of Course Committee of Heritage Education, said that ‘This website will help making heritage learning functional.’ The website was launched by the former Education Secretary, Anshu Vaish who was very pleased with CBSE’s endeavour to encourage a cultural learning among students.
CBSE would like to create Heritage Education a dynamic subject which can emerge as a link program between social and natural sciences.
Therefore, to motivate schools in this direction, the Board has launched several Heritage Education games, activities and projects for schools. Events like inter-school Heritage India quiz, celebration of World Heritage Day on 12th January every year, adopt a monument programme and functioning of Heritage school clubs is also being introduced. In continuing this effort board launched its website on Heritage education.
