CBI tells Jindal to unlock his cupboards, faces flak for delaying arrest

A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered an FIR against Congress MP Naveen Jindal, the investigating officers reportedly asked him to cooperate  in the probe. Sources said that Jindal, who is said to be in London, was communicated that he should join the investigations of the case in which he and his firms are accused of cheating, criminal conspiracy and corruption.
Besides, the investigating officers also urged that few cupboards which were found locked during Tuesday’s raids at 19 places including Jindal’s residence and offices be opened. The CBI on Monday had booked Jindal and former minister of state for Coal DS Rao in connection with the coalgate scam. This was the twelfth FIR.

The agency accused Jindal of paying a bribe of Rs 2.5 crores to Rao to get a coal block in Jharkhand allocated to the former’s companies, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd and Gagan Sponge Iron Ltd.
The CBI probe also revealed that Jindal’s coal companies received coal blocks despite rejection by the power ministry. The probe reveals how Jindal companies did not meet the criteria set by the ministry and yet managed to receive coal blocks. Some reports even suggested that the Jharkhand government pushed Lanco Infra out to favour Naveen Jindal’s companies in 2007. Moreover, Dasari Narayan Rao rejected Bhushan Energy and gave Amarkantak coal block to Jindal’s companies, the CBI said.
