Sources said those against cases were registered are directors of Sai Baba builders, suppliers of high altitude tents required by Special Frontier Force (SFF) and unknown officials of SFF and Cabinet Secretariat. The CBI sleuths has carried out searches at three premises in Delhi and Kolkata at the premises of directors Shyam Sunder Bhatter, Manjari, and JPN Singh of Sai Baba Builders.
There are allegations that the Cabinet Secretariat and SFF officials had reportedly showed favours in the supply of pre-fabricated shelters for SFF at high altitude locations causing undue gain of several crores to the suppliers during 2009-13.
The CBI action came following an order from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) which wanted a thorough probe in the matter. Meanwhile, in a separate case, a senior Railway Board official was caught red-handed on Wednesday by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly receiving Rs. 5 lakh in bribe from a tour operator to facilitate special trains and additional coaches for tourists.
Ravi Mohan Sharma, an Indian Railway Traffic Service officer of 1997 batch, was allegedly accepting bribe amount at his residence in Delhi from a Mumbai-based tour operator when he was arrested by the CBI sleuths.
CBI spokesperson said, ‘The money was being paid through the hawala channel. We are probing whether the accused had amassed wealth disproportionate to his income from known sources.’
