Barely 50 meters away from a police post in South-west Delhi’s Dwarka area, a 26-year-old cashier of a well known milk-dairy was shot dead before being robbed of cash by unidentified armed bike-borne assailants on Tuesday afternoon. The accused are still absconding and the cops denied disclosing the robbed amount.
The incident took place at around 1 pm when the victim, identified as Sonu, was going to hand over a payment to someone. Sonu had been a cashier at Param Milk-Dairy for the last few years.
At the time of the incident he was riding his motorcycle in the service lane and was carrying a bag full of cash.
When he had crossed the gate of Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology at Dwarka, two unidentified men on a motor-bike overtook his bike and tried to snatch the bag. When he tried to resist and raise an alarm, the pillion rider pulled out a pistol and shot at him before escaping from the spot. The armed assailants took away the cash bag and fled.
A passer-by made a call to the police control room and a team reached the spot. In the meantime, the police officials posted at the police post also reached the spot.
The victim was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. He received a gunshot injury on his chest, puncturing his heart.
According to the police, the preliminary investigation suggests a case of robbery but probe is on from all plausible angles, including personal enmity. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Dwarka North police station and further investigation is underway, the official added.
