Cash firm, staffers still under scanner

Despite the arrest of the mastermind of Defence Colony heist, Delhi police has not yet given clean chit either to Premier Shield Pvt  Ltd or to the employees who were present inside the cash van  during the incident.

So far, Delhi police has arrested seven persons, including two main accused, in the Rs 5.25 crore robbery. On Wednesday, the mastermind, Hari Krishan, was apprehended from Banda in Uttar Pradesh.

When Millennium Post contacted the spokesperson of Premier Shield company, he refused to give any comment. Later, when asked about the status of police verification of his employees, especially the security staff, he said, ‘The company has opened its new branch and legal formalities take time. The legal department was about to opt for police verification for its staff when the robbery took place.’

The company opened its branch in Lajpat Nagar on 20 July. Since then, the company was providing services to various private banks in Delhi, especially in the south.

Sources in police said the company has both bullet-proof and non-bullet proof cash vans, but on 28 September [day of the robbery], the company  provided non-bullet proof cash van, even though officials were well aware that a huge amount of money was being transferred.

Not only this, no security was given to act as a protection cover around the cash van. Due to these factors, among others, Delhi phas has not given clean chit to the company.

Also, the victims-Anil [driver], Ashok and Ajab Singh- who were the employees of the company, did not raise any alarm and reportedly tried to defend the robbers.  In this incident, Munne Singh, who was the security guard in the cash van, was shot by one of the robbers.

All these victims and the eye-witnesses are still being questioned by the police teams.

During the interrogation, one of the accused told police that they were not aware about the amount that the cash van was carrying inside. After the robbery, when they left behind the van in Hauz Rani area and reached their rented accommodation in Khirki, they were shocked to see such a huge amount, he claimed.
