Carjackers abandon vehicle after owner uses GPS, locks engine from 14 km distance

In a unique use of technology, a car owner prevented his car theft from a distance of 14 km, forcing three car jackers to escape after abandoning the car. The owner of the car remotely locked the engine though a GPS disabler device when three unidentified car robbers had managed to cross several night check posts of Ghaziabad Police.
The owner of the car S N Sharma, a resident of Vivek Vihar in Delhi had come to attend a party at Red Carpet Lawn in Vaishali, Ghaziabad. His 65-year-old driver Narendra Kaushik was in the car. At Around 2 pm, three unidentified persons overpowered Kaushik and drove away the car along with the driver. “I saw on my mobile that the car was moving at a high speed. I immediately locked the engine. I was suspicious about the movement of my car but had no idea about the incident,” said Sharma. According to police the robbers drove with the stolen vehicle towards Kavi Nagar but had to abandon the car and the driver after the car owner remotely locked the engine through a GPS disabler device. The car and the driver were later found on the Diamond flyover near Kavi Nagar industrial area, police said.
“He was beaten up and suffered internal injuries. He was also tied up by the robbers. We had to take him for medical assistance,” said S N Sharma, the car owner. “We were saved because of the device. I had got the car fitted with all the necessary safety and security devices when it was bought. We’ll be filing a police complaint,” he added.
