After apprehending an alleged car-jacker duo, including a teenager, the police claimed to have solved as many as 20 cases of robbery, burglary and thefts in south-west Delhi and other NCR regions that include Gurgaon and Bahadurgarh in Haryana, the police said on Saturday.
The adult accused was identified as Satbir Singh (25). The police also said that both Satbir and the teenager had a common girlfriend and they allegedly spent almost all their illicit money on the woman.
During interrogation of the two, it also emerged that the gang had more members which include a 23-year-old man identified as Yogesh and four other juveniles, who are yet to be apprehended. Satbir is the alleged leader of the gang and all its members are reported to be residents of southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh area, said RA Sanjeev, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest).
Based on a tip off, the police laid a trap on a road in southeast Delhi’s Chhawla area on Friday evening and overpowered the duo, who reportedly approached there in a Toyota Etios car, after a hot chase. They had come from Gurgaon to allegedly threaten a rickshaw puller in the area for extortion money. Apart from the car, the police also recovered a country-made pistol from their possession.
They gang was highly active in the past few months. They used to dispatch the accessories of the stolen cars to UP and Haryana, and later sell off the cars in and around Najafgarh area with ‘For Sale’ boards put on the bonnet and the cars being parked on roadside.
“Further investigation is in progress and efforts are being made to affect more recovery and to ascertain their involvements in other cases,” Sanjeev added.
