Cancer patient commits suicide at ILBS

A 42-year-old cancer patient, who was undergoing treatment at The Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) hospital, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the stairs of the hospital premises. His wife had left to find her brother when he jumped to his death. The police have ruled out any foulplay in the incident.

The incident took place on Thursday. The patient has been identified as Atma Ram, a resident of Sambhal District in Uttar Pradesh. According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Chinmoy Biswal: “Atma Ram was admitted to the hospital on January  6 and was undergoing treatment for cancer. Around 1.09 pm, we had received a call, informing us that a man had jumped from the stairs of the hospital. We had sent in a team to the spot.”

When the police was deputed to the spot, they found that Atma had jumped from the stairs located at the third floor and had died due to the impact. “It was found that he was accompanied by his wife minutes before his death. She was helping him to walk and later he told her to go find his brother, Harlal, to assist him to walk,” said a senior police official.

“He died due to a head injury. We have questioned the hospital staff and are ruling out any foulplay in the incident,” the official added.
