After several delays, the Nupur and Rajesh Talwar, accused of killing their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, appeared in the special CBI court in Ghaziabad on Friday to record their statements in the case. The couple denied all the charges levelled by the investigative agency. In the court of additional district judge (CBI) S Lal, the CBI prosecutor B K Singh served a list of 188 questions to the court on which the Talwar couple were questioned.
The questions ranged from the clothes they were wearing, the time they entered in their house the last time, the time they saw Aarushi last on that fateful night and the time they came to know about the death of their daughter. Besides these several assertive questions, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were also asked questions regarding the conspiracy to murder and destruction of evidence.
‘On being asked whether they or their relative Sushila Sharma had asked the doctor not to mention rape in the post-mortem report of deceased Aarushi Talwar, the couple said they were not aware of any such development,’ said B K Singh.
The Talwars also replied in ‘no’ and ‘not aware’ to the questions related to discovery of the body of the domestic help Hemraj on the second day after the murder of their teenaged daughter.
According to lawyers, the couple were calm and answered all the questions of the prosecution. Rajesh Talwar also denied exerting any pressure on the investigative agency or Noida police to interfere in the investigation.
“I did cooperate in the investigation as per the best of my capacity,’ Talwar said to the court, added Singh.
Their deposition in the CBI court will continue on Monday.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Talwar’s lawyer, Mahendera Kumar, informed the CBI court that the Allahabad High Court has accepted their plea to summon the 14 witnesses and record their statements.
However, the date of discussion on the plea is yet to be decided by the court. Aarushi Talwar (14) and domestic help Hemraj (40) were found murdered in Noida on 16 May, 2008.
