A new cadaver training and research facility was inaugurated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Wednesday to offer hands on training to young surgeons.
The centre situated at the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre is the only facility of its kind in the country, an official said.
Sumit Sinha, a doctor with AIIMS’ neuro surgery department said: ‘The primary purpose of the cadaveric facility is for the training of undergraduate, postgraduate medical students and the surgeons from all over India and abroad through regular structured fellowship programmes. There are very few cadaveric dissection facilities in the world imparting training to postgraduate surgical students and there is no such facility existing all over India as of now. We intend to train surgeons and overseas in this cadaveric facility,’ he said.
