Cabinet approves setting up of children’s academy

Delhi Cabinet on Monday gave its approval for setting up of Delhi Children’s Academy, on the lines of other existing language academies in the national capital. It also gave the green signal for the introduction of an IT-enabled Integrated Financial Accounting and Management System for all departments of the city government. The decisions were taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Sheila Dikshit.
Speaking after the meeting, Dikshit said, ‘Our children are the future of the country. Hence, the government would like to provide them all opportunities to hone their creative talent. The cabinet has approved the setting up of a Children’s Academy with the objective of promoting and bringing out the creative talent among children by exposing them to various extra-curricular activities, creative forays, theatre experiments and recreational activities.
The chief minister will be the ex-officio chairperson of the academy. Presently, the city government has established six language academies, namely Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Maithili-Bhojpuri and Sindhi. Apart from this, the Sahitya Kala Parishad is working for the promotion of arts and culture.
Dikshit further stated that the present system of financial accounting in the government needs to be made in consonance with the modern office procedures.
The new system will ensure transparent, accountable and better service delivery to the citizens, tax payers, vendors and suppliers and employees. The new system will become operational after 18 months.
