A 22-year-old cab driver has been arrested for killing his girlfriend, who was one year elder to him. After the girl came to know that he was already married, she wanted him to take divorce from his wife and marry her. After killing her, the accused also clicked her photograph as well, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday, when the cab driver, identified as Ajay Hooda, killed 23-year-old Sapna at her resdience in South-west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area. After geeting a tip-off about Hooda, a trap was laid in Dabri area and Hooda was apprehdended from his white Ford Figo car. At the time of his apprehesion, his clothes were bearing blood stains.

“During interrogation, Hooda revealed that he had been in relationship with a girl — Pooja (name changed) for the last three years and married her a month ago. About 5-6 months ago, he had also came in touch with Sapna and in due course of time friendly relations developed between them.

Somehow, Sapna came to know about Hooda’s maritial status. She strongly objected to the relationship and started pressurising him to marry her after taking a divorce from Pooja.

“After Hooda refused to take divorce, Sapna started creating pressure on him and he planned to eliminate her,” Vijay Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-west) said.

On Wednesday evening, he reached Sapna’s house and some time later, argument ensued between them. Hooda brutally assaulted her before strangulating her to death. He covered the body with a quilt. Before leaving the house, he destroyed the SIM card of Sapna’s mobile and took her phones, Rs 30,000 cash and jewellery items.

Hooda originally belongs to Shahbad Daulatpur. He studied up to class V and then he shifted to Sonepat due to his father’s illness. There he studied till class X. He quit studies and started working as a cab driver and later started running his private taxi. He is fond of weightlifting and had
