CA aspirant accidentally shot dead by room-mate with constable’s revolver

A 20-year-old undergraduate student, who was also pursuing chartered accountancy, was allegedly shot dead by his room-mate in east Delhi’s Shakarpur area on Saturday night.

The revolver belonged to a Delhi Police constable, posted at the Shakarpur police station, who shared a rented room with them at S-90 School Block. It was reportedly an accident, said the police.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Raghuvendra (20), was allegedly shot dead by his room-mate, Sashank (20), with a service revolver of a Delhi Police constable, Robin (35), who was their third room-mate. Robin was on duty and had gone to the room at around 8.30 pm to have dinner. After getting back to the room, he kept his service revolver on the study table and went to the balcony with Vipin, a cousin of the victim, for a chat.

Suddenly, they heard a gunshot and rushed to the room, where they discovered Raghuvendra lying in a pool of blood. He was shot on his forehead.

All three of them rushed Raghuvendra to Safdarjung Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Meanwhile, they also called the police and reported the incident.

It was reported that, when constable Robin and Vipin had gone outside for a chat, Sashank began playing a prank on Raghuvendra pointing the barrel at him. He unintentionally pulled the trigger with a little more pressure and the shot was fired, said police.

‘We have arrested the accused and the constable. A case has been registered at Shakarpur police station. We are further interrogating the constable and an internal enquiry has been initiated,’ said a senior police official.

Raghuvendra, Sashank and Vipin were pursuing chartered accountancy for which they had to attend coaching classes near Lakshmi Nagar and ITO area, and so they had rented rooms at Shakarpur.
They belonged to Baliya district of Uttar Pradesh. Raghuvendra was also a B.Com second year student at Amity University in Noida, said a source.

Raghuvendra’s body was handed over to his relatives, who reached Delhi in the afternoon, after a postmortem examination.

They took the body to his native village, where cremations are to take place, a police official added.
