C K Sharma sent to 1-day police custody

The Gurgaon city court on Friday evening sent the retired wing commander serviceman C K Sharma to one-day police custody. District Magistrate Ashok Kumar neither approved nor rejected the bail plea of Sharma who is accused for embezzling funds from the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement (IESM) society’s account. The duty magistrate will be hearing the case again on Saturday after which the decision for bail plea will be announced.

In a recent development in the case of embezzlement of money from the One Rank One Pension movement’s account, one of the accused C K Sharma was arrested by the Gurgaon Police on late Thursday evening. Taking a note about the history of the case, the former chairman of OROP society had registered a case against three accused for illegally withdrawing the money from the society’s account and running away with it. In a recent development in this case, one of the accused, C K Sharma was arrested by the Gurgaon Police.

Sources revealed that he was arrested at around 5.30 pm and taken to the Economic Offence Wing, West, where he was interrogated. After his medical test, Sharma was shifted to Civil Lines police station where he was kept all night. Meanwhile, Nisha Sharma, the daughter of C K Sharma has alleged that her mother was pushed and her father was just picked up from their residence and was manhandled when he was arrested. They also said that the whereabouts of Sharma were kept secret from them.

However, sources from within the IESM have said that there has been an on-going ego clash and divisional difference between the top members of the society. In July 2014, the entire matter of misuse of funds was settled by the Gurgaon court and C K Sharma was pleaded “not guilty”. Soon after the court order, the IESM held a general body meeting after which Raj Kadyan, was expelled from the position of the chairman of the IESM.

“Members from within the IESM society feel that they have lost trust in Kadyan, since he always wanted to lead the society as a single-member leader and not take other members into consideration. Kadyan’s motives for joining politics and his dealings with BJP is seen as one of the reason for him to be seen as not trustworthy,” said Admiral H C Malhotra.

On the other hand, the other two accused Capt Vinod Gandhi and Satbir Singh were granted anticipatory bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday. On the contrary, since Sharma was arrested on Thursday evening, his anticipatory bail plea didn’t hold true and a fresh bail plea application was moved by the council in the Gurgaon court on Friday.
