Busted! Private financial firm staff held for staged robbery

Delhi police has busted the conspiracy of a staged robbery by the employees of Muthoot Finance, and arrested four persons and recovered 2.6 kg gold, along with Rs. 10 lakh in cash.
Police officials from the central district have busted a gang which had fled with 3.4 kg of gold by arresting four persons Amit Advani (30), Sandeep Khatri(30), Srijeet (29), Girish Chand (38) and has recovered 2.6 kg of gold and Rs. 10 lakh cash.

‘A PCR call was received on 30 May regarding snatching of a bag by unknown persons. Complainant Girish, an office boy in Karol Bagh, informed that he, along with Srijeet, assistant manager of Muthoot Finance, East Park Road Branch, had gone to Lajpat Nagar to bring some jewellery items from Lajpat Nagar,’ said a police officer.
‘At about 7.30 pm, when they reached their office at East Park Road, two persons came on a bike and robbed a bag from Girish containing about 3.4 kg of gold jewellery by threatening to shoot him,’ he added.

According to Girish, the assistant manager had gone inside the branch office with his bag and he was alone when the incident took place. On the statement of the complainant, a case was registered and investigation initiated.
During the investigation, Girish statements were found to be unsatisfactory. Girish and Srijeet were closely questioned and were kept under observation. During the course of interrogation, Girish broke down and confessed that the bag had not been robbed, and he and Srijeet, along with two others, Sandeep Khatri and Amit had planned to embezzle the jewellery and make a false claim of robbery.

The four had earlier met at Central Park, Connaught Place to plan the conspiracy.
On 30 May, Srijeet and Girish had gone to Lajpat Nagar to bring about 6 kgs of gold jewellery to their branch office at East Park road.
The gold items were kept in 58 sealed packets, which were further placed in two bags. The bad carried by Srijeet had 46 packets with gold items weighing approximately 2.6 kgs and the bag
carried by Girish had 12 packets with gold items weighing approximately 3.4 kgs.

The two claimed that it was this bad that was robbed. However, during investigation, it was found that Srijeet was in contact with Sandeep Khatri and soon after reaching East Park road, near his branch, he called Sandeep who sent Amit and Girish handed him the bag and made a call of robbery.

‘After Sandeep Khatri and Amit were identified, raids were conducted to arrest both of them. Amit was arrested and the bag in which the jewellery items were handed to him along with the scooter used in the staged robbery was recovered.
During  his interrogation, it was revealed that soon after taking the jewellery items (bag), Amit had handed over the bag to Sandeep Khatri, who had transferred the packets of gold to another   bag,’ said a police officer.
