NLC powers itself to its best ever performance in FY17

The production in 2016-17 was the highest since the company’s inception

NLC India Ltd, a Navratna public sector enterprise, under the Ministry of Coal (MoC), has witnessed a sustained growth since its inception in 1956. NLCIL is a pioneer among the public sector undertakings in mine-cum-energy sector.

The year 2016-17 has been a successful and eventful year for NLC India Limited. The company has scaled new heights in its physical performance ever since its inception in the areas of lignite mining and power generation.

All the products registered a growth over the performance of previous year. Lignite production registered a growth of 8.49 per cent and power generation registered a growth of 14.06 per cent during the year.

Total overburden removal from all mines put together at 2060.70 LM3 (1702.76 LM3 is the previous highest in 2015-16) achieved during the year 2016-17 is the highest for any year since inception.

Total lignite production from all mines put together at 276.21 LT (266.09 LT is the previous highest in 2013-14) achieved during 2016-17 is the highest for any year since inception.

Total power generation from all thermal power stations put together at 22340.59 MU (19988.65 MU is the previous highest in 2013-14) achieved during 2016-17 is the highest for any year since inception.

Total export of power from all thermal power stations put together at 17718.00 MU (16956.40 MU is the previous highest in 2013-14) achieved during the year of 2016-17 is the highest for any year since inception.

Financial performance for the year 2016-17 (First three quarters ending December 2016) has also registered a sustained growth. Sales turnover stands at Rs
5,830.98 crore up to the quarter ending December 2016 as against Rs 4,820.91 crore for the corresponding period during 2015-16 (previous highest), registering a growth of 20.95 per cent.

Total income stands at Rs 6,088.06 crore up to the quarter ending December 2016 as against Rs 5,235.63 crore for the corresponding period in the year 2015-16 (previous highest), registering a growth of 16.28 per cent.

Profit before tax stands at Rs 1,279.04 crore up to the quarter ending December 2016 as against Rs 1,184.77 crore for the corresponding period during 2015-16 (previous highest), registering a growth of 7.96 per cent. Profit After Tax stands at Rs 852.35 crore up to the quarter ending December 2016 as against Rs 723.82 crore for the corresponding period in the year 2015-16 (previous highest), registering a growth of 17.76%.

An Interim Dividend of 73.40 per cent amounting to Rs 1,121.97 crore has been paid to all share holders excluding Rs 228.40 crore dividend distributed tax to Govt of India. GoI's share of the above dividend is Rs 1,002.20 crore.

With regard to Neyveli New TPS ( 2 x 500 MW), supplies and Erection works are in progress for Steam generator, Turbo generator and Balance of Plant Package. Mine development activities in progress (commenced in September 2015) in respect of Expansion of Mine-I (Area Expansion) and Expansion of Mine-IA (3 MTPA to 7MTPA).

GOI sanctioned the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project (GTPP), Uttar Pradesh of NUPPL, JV of NLCIL (NLCIL's subsidiary) and UPRVUNL, UP (3x660 MW) in July 2016.

Contracts awarded for major packages and construction activities are under progress.

In addition to its existing 45 MW (further 6 MW under commissioning) wind power in Triunelveli, Tamil Nadu and 10 MW solar power projects at Neyveli Tamilnadu, NLCIL has commenced the construction activities for a 130 MW solar power plant at Neyveli.
