CIL arm emerges Swachhta Pakhwada national champion

New Delhi: After the ministry of coal observed its fortnight sanitation campaign 'Swachhta Pakwada' Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a highest coal supplying company of the country based in Odisha, has been declared 1st for the activities- organized in Coal India Limited (CIL).
Aiming to make sanitation a public movement, the fortnight programme by the Government of India was organized from August 16 to August 31, where the Ministry of Coal and other attached offices and PSUs under the administrative control observed it.
As per communication received from the Environment Division at Coal India Limited, Kolkata, MCL was adjudged top scorer among the eight sister subsidiaries – Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL), Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL), Western Coalfields Ltd.(WCL), Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL), South-Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), Central Mine Planning and Designing Institute Ltd (CMPDI) and Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) — of Coal India.
Few activities like installation of a plant for production of drinking water, electrical crematorium constructed on the Ghat of Mahanadi River, truck mounted compactor machine provided to the Sambalpur municipal corporation for collection and compaction of the garbage, stretch of around 1.5 km in Manimukta River in Vridhachlam were few notable activities of the fortnight sanitation campaign by the coal ministry.
Even, funds were provided to the Government of Jharkhand for making 3 districts open defecation free (ODF). Moreover, all the units were involved in cleaning of schools, hospitals, Primary Health Centers, and Anganwadis. Students and staff were made a part of the process.
Three different dustbins were also installed in schools and hospitals for segregating the waste at the source to ensure proper disposal of solid waste.
In villages, under the command area of the PSU's, cleaning of water bodies, wells, overhead tanks, water collection facilities, storm water drains, streets and roads were also taken up.
