Bureaucrats & ministers to work together for the ‘Greater Good’

Addressing a seminar at the Delhi Secretariat on the eve of the Civil Services Day, the CM said that his aspiration from the bureaucracy is of a systemic change and though it has become a fashion to berate the bureaucracy for all ills, but the root cause of main problems plaguing the country was bad politics.

Kejriwal said that though there are a lot of good individuals in the bureaucracy, governance has not improved. He also said that for governance to improve, fundamental changes are required in the way governments are run. He said that one of the main things required to be done is to introduce competition in bureaucracy to improve its efficiency. The Delhi government is planning to implement a transparent system of awards and punishments for the bureaucracy. To begin with, the government intends to open up the positions of VAT and Excise commissioners.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia urged the bureaucracy to reinvent itself for restoring lost talent. Sisodia said that the ministers and bureaucrats have to learn to co-exist and that he expects officers to give preference to public good over technicalities. “The government files and papers do not help in minimising general problems. Ministers and bureaucrats will have to trust each other for providing honest delivery in the interests of the common man,” said the Deputy Chief Minister.

He further requested the bureaucracy to keep the interests of the aam aadmi in focus while deciding policies. He also said the Delhi government is willing to change laws, which come in the way of delivery to the people.
