Building collapses in Gzb: One dead, 8 critically injured

Police said the accident took place when one portion of the building collapsed, in which over 25 workers were working at the time of the incident. Huge police force along with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel and fire officials reached the spot. The casualties were rushed to GTB Hospital in New Delhi.

Police have registered a case against two contractors (Jafrudding and Israel) and owner (Chunne Khan) of the building, who are still at large. Dharmender Yadav, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Ghaziabad said the incident took place around 7.30 pm in Tronica City industrial area. “The owner of the plot, who is a resident of Kabir Nagar in east Delhi, was planning to set up a factory at the construction site. ‘While the cause of collapse is still not known, it is believed that the cement had not set properly,” the SSP said. He further added a probe has been ordered into the incident and a manhunt has been launched to nab the owner and the contractors.

“The owner has told us that except for one person, everybody else in his employment has been rescued. However, there are chances that people may still be trapped under the debri. The NDRF personnel are carrying out the search and rescue operations”, said Yadav.

The labourers, working at the site said over two dozen workers were working inside the building at the time of incident. “My two cousins are still untraceable,” said Sanjay, a worker.
