BSP will not ally with BJP or Cong for UP polls: Maya

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Monday made it clear that it will not get into an alliance with any party, including the Congress, and will contest all seats in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections due in 2017.

“I want to state it clearly that the BSP will not have any alliance with any party. Neither with the BJP nor the Congress. Our party will contest all 403 seats and we will contest on our own strength,” BSP chief Mayawati told reporters outside Parliament.

She alleged that the Samajwadi Party (SP) was spreading ‘rumours’ that her party will tie-up with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and claimed that it was SP that had joined hands with the saffron party.

“Recently, there have been reports in media that the BSP is tying up with the BJP in the upcoming UP Assembly elections. This is a rumour being spread by SP,” the former UP chief minister said.

“In fact, SP has already joined hands with the BJP. SP broke out from the grand alliance of Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar in Bihar to help the BJP in the recently concluded state elections. This is a well-coordinated effort on the part of SP to spread canard,” she said.

Stepping up attack against the SP, she said: “The situation in UP is not good and the state is witnessing communal tension. People of UP want change in the state and they want the BSP to come to the power.”

On VK Singh issue, she said: “We have already demanded the resignation of Singh before the commencement of the session. But the government is not going to take any action and it shows their anti-Dalit attitude.”

Taking on the Congress, the BSP supremo said: “Atrocities were committed against the downtrodden when the Congress was in power in Haryana. The Congress was in power both in the state and at the centre, but Dalits did not get any justice. So, whenever Congress raises the Dalit issue, it is for political purpose only.”
