Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has spurned the advances of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to enter in an alliance in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. According to sources, BSP made it clear to BJP that its deal with BJP is limited only to support of the mayor in return for the post of deputy mayor.
The other smaller parties which had supported BJP candidates in South DMC elections have distanced themselves from any pre-poll alliance with BJP.
‘We have supported the mayor candidate of BJP only because they have promised us the post of deputy mayor. We are not supporting their candidates even in the election of ward committees of zones,’ said Bir Singh Bidhuri, BSP leader and former deputy mayor of South DMC.
According to sources, the proposal of BJP for a pre-poll alliance was discussed seriously and state party leadership of BSP was much eager to accept the proposal but party chief Mayawati rejected it.
‘She said the coalition with BJP should be limited to South DMC only. But the state leadership is free to take decision in the election of ward committee and zones,’ said a senior party leader of BSP.
Following the decision, BSP supported Congress candidate Virender Kasana for the post of chairman of central zone and not the BJP supported NCP candidate.
However, Chandraprakash of NCP also got 15 votes and winner was decided in a lucky draw in which Kasana won the seat.
But BSP made its message loud and clear. According to sources, BJP have even offered seat sharing arrangement with BSP which the latter rejected on the instruction of its party chief.
