Brothers held for alleged murder, one still at large

With the arrest of two brothers, the police claimed to have solved a murder case in 24 hours, police said on Thursday. However, a proclaimed bad character involved in the incident is still at large.

The accused identified as Anshul (23) and Rohan (18) had allegedly stabbed to death a 26-year-old man, identified as Harvinder Singh, near a shop in Karol Bagh on June 16.

According to the police, Harvinder's brother, Narender (24), was drinking a soft drink near a local shop when the shop-owner, Deepankar, entered into a scuffle with a local, identified as one Rohan, over the latter kicking away a bamboo with which the former had supported a tarpaulin sheet, used as a shed for customers outside his shop.

Soon Rohan left the scene, saying that he would return with his associates for a fight. In 10 minutes, he came back with his elder brother Anshul and a proclaimed bad character from the area, identified as Yogesh. When the three of them started thrashing Deepankar, Narender tried to intervene. Then the trio allegedly started thrashing Narender too, and someone informed his brother.

Harvinder rushed to the spot and started fighting out the trio. Soon, one of them pulled out a knife and allegedly stabbed him to death. When Harvinder collapsed, they fled the scene, said a police official.

“Several teams were formed and based on inputs received through technical surveillance, the police waylaid Rohan and Anshul, near SGND Khalsa College. The teams are still looking for Yogesh,” said Paramaditya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).
