British national’s murder: Suspect yet to be identified

A day after the body of a British national was found stuffed in a plastic bag in south east Delhi’s Bhogal market, the identity of the accused behind the brutal murder is still unknown.

On Sunday morning, Delhi police received a call that an unclaimed bag was found lying outside a shop in Bhogal market. With the help of the passport kept in the deceased’s pocket, he was later identified as Rodick Andrew Reymond.

Senior police officials remained tight lipped on Monday and have not disclosed developments about the case. However, a police official close to investigation, requesting anonymity said, ‘The case is likely to be solved within next few days as officers have gathered few clues about the accused’.

‘The investigation is at pre-mature stage so it is very risky to share the information as it might hamper the case’, he added. Police on Monday ruled out the possibility of robbery followed by murder.

‘The body was decomposed and bore head and facial injuries. Few burn marks on his cheeks were found and other brutal injuries on his face indicate that the accused wanted to hide the identity of the deceased and thus attempted to smash his face. Also, the accused dumped the body three-four days after murdering him in order to create barriers for our investigations,’ the officer added.

The passport found inside his pocket seems suspect and investigations into all plausible angles are yet to be made about his identity with full satisfaction. ‘If the accused wanted to hide the victim’s identity then why would he leave the passport. This could be part of a game plan by the accused,’ he said.

A letter has been written to the British High Commission that requested them to provide information about Rodick. ‘DNA samples have been taken that would be matched with samples from his family. According to his possible identity, if he is the same person, he arrived in India a month ago on a tourist visa and was staying in a guest house in Delhi’, the police official said.
