Bringing legends to life through ballet

With the soaring temperature in the Capital day by day, one could assume dearth of cultural activities in the circuit during summers. But its not the case as yet and Delhi is gearing up for a spurt of events. One of them being the Summer Ballet Festival.

Organised by Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, the ballets mainly interpret traditional Hindu legends of female power, divinity coupled with mythology. Some of the popular legends to be performed are Karna, Meera, Abhimanyu and Shree Durga.

While Karna is a dedicated effort to all the Karnas- natural and unnatural- who are denied the rightful place in the social milieu seen in its correct perspective. Following a path of righteousness like a Brahmin being kind and giving charity even to his enemies and foes and for being a good friend are some of the qualities of Karna to be revered and bring on stage. Meera's dedication and perseverance for Lord Krishna still inspires many in today's time. It is still relevant today, in terms of a woman fighting the society where there is a Meera in every woman.

Shree Durga on the other hand will talk about the atrocities done on women and how she is victimsed by the demons under the garb of men in our society. When the Gods give boons they themselves become victims of these boons and it is then that they invoke Feminine Power (Shree Shakti) to vanquish demons in society.

While all the characters belong to a by-gone era, still a resemblance with relevance is quite visible and required in today's perspective and thus is put forward through this festival.
