Brawl breaks out at midnight: Delhi cop shot dead

Two persons including a Delhi Police constable were killed while over a dozen critically injured in a clash between two groups over a petty issue in Badalpur police station area of Greater Noida on Tuesday night.

Sources said several rounds of bullets were fired, brick batting, vandalism, arson and person-to-person fights by members of both groups took place during two hours of violence. Fight between irate members led to tension in the area following which the district administration imposed Section 144 and also deployed a huge contingent of police force.

The incident was reported from Dujana village, infamous due to Anil Dujana’s gang. The brawl took place when electricity department personnel were installing poles in the village and the one, Vijaypal, opposed the installation in the vicinity of his house. During his opposition, others also joined blaming their neighbour Praveen, a constable currently posted at Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), responsible for the move of the  power department.  Around 9 pm, the angry members from both groups engaged in a scuffle and elderly villagers intervened to settle the issue. As the groups refused to relent, a brawl broke out on Tuesday late night again and people attacked with country-made pistols, iron rods, hammers, lathis, bricks etc. In between the clash, Vijay hit Praveen and his friend Arun with a hammer injuring them.

Apart from them, more than a dozen people were also injured during the fight. The matter was reported to local police who rushed to the village immediately. The victims were admitted at a nearby hospital where Praveen and Arun were declared brought dead while condition of several others is stated to be critical. Noticing intensity of the clash, a huge deployment of police personnel including few companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) was made in and around the village. The police registered an FIR naming nine persons and arrested Vijaypal, the main accused, along with Shuraj, Shimla and Kanchan in this connection. “To avert any untoward incident, a huge police force has been deployed. The police have also initiated penal action after booking a few villagers,” said a senior police official investing the matter.
