Boy pays for trying to save sister

A teenager had to pay for trying to speak up against youths trying to molest his sister, outside their residence in New Friends Colony, on 31 December. So far, three persons have been arrested in the case, while the remaining nine are absconding.

The 17-year-old boy was critically injured after three of the 12 accused stabbed him. ‘The incident took place when the family was celebrating New Year outside their residence. Around 1.30 am, 12 persons on six motorcycles approached the family, and started abusing the girl,’ said a senior police official. Her brother then raised an alarm, had a heated argument with them, and the youths ended up stabbing him several times. When the boy fell on the ground, the accused fled. The family immediately took him to the nearby AIIMS hospital. ‘His condition is stable but he has received several deep cuts on his chest and hand,’ said the doctor. When Ajay Chaudhary, additional deputy commissioner of police (south-east) was contacted, he called the matter as a ‘normal’ fight between neighbours. ‘We have arrested three persons and are trying to trace others’ he added.

He said, ‘A case under the section-509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of Indian Penal Code has been booked against all the 12 persons.’
