Boy, held for Rs 1 cr ransom, gives the slip to kidnappers

A 23-year-old B.Arch student, who was kidnapped and held for a ransom of Rs 1 crore, returned home safely on Friday. The unidentified kidnappers are yet to be arrested. Mohammed Rohan returned home after reportedly rescuing himself.

The kidnapping took place on Monday evening when Rohan’s family received a ransom call. One of the kidnappers introduced himself as a goon from Dubai, who demanded Rs 1 crore. He threatened the family  with dire consequences if they approached the police.

On Monday morning, Rohan left home in his car to attend classes but failed to return. In the evening the family received the call and when a man-hunt was carried out by the family, they found the car parked in New Friends Colony. When the family failed to arrange Rs 1 crore, the kidnappers negotiated the ransom money to Rs 50 lakh. On Thursday evening, the kidnappers again called from a PCO booth and demanded Rs 35 lakhs. The family did not inform the police about the kidnapping and the ransom calls. On Friday morning, the family who stays in Jamia Nagar was surprised to see their son return home safely. After his safe arrival, the family approached the local police station in the evening to lodge a complaint.

‘We have taken Rohan’s statement and we are investigating the case from all plausible angles. A case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Jamia Nagar police station. A medical examination of the kidnapped victim has also been conducted,’ the police official said. No information regarding the victim’s escape has been released yet.
