Boy calls 100, says ‘do not harass my family after I die’, ends life

According to the police, on Friday evening, Shahzad made a PCR call saying that he is going to hang himself at K-block of Seelampur. “After I leave this world, please do not harass my family members” requested Shahzad to the policeman who attended the PCR call which Shahzad made before hanging himself from the ceiling fan.

“Before the man could call back on the boy’s number, it was switched off, said a senior Delhi Police official. It became extremely difficult for us to trace the caller as we could not find his location after he switched off his mobile phone,” said an Investigating Officer.

However, at 10.30 pm, cops got a call from a nearby hospital that they have received a case of suicide. Following which, police went to the hospital and identified the deceased as Shahzad. A case under Inquest Proceedings has been registered at Seelampur police station.

“At 6.30 pm on Friday, Shahzad dialled 100 from K block, which is where he lives with his family saying that he would end his life.

“Before we could trace the call, he switched off his phone. Since K block is a huge neighbourhood spread far and wide, we formed and dispatched local teams from the Seelampur police station. Even the PCR van did thorough patrolling in the neighbourhood,” said a senior Delhi Police official.

“At around 10.30 pm, we received a call from JagPravesh Chandra hospital in Seelampur that they have received a case of death by hanging. The local police rushed to the hospital and found that the deceased was none other than Shahzad, the one who made the PCR call. His family members informed us that he hanged hismelf at his elder brother’s wire making gowdown situated at the A block,” added the official.

“We have not found any suicide note from the spot so it is difficult to establish the reason why he committed suicide. We are questioning family and friends to know what made him took the extreme step,” added the officer privy to the case.

A case under Sections 174 of CrPC (Inquest Proceedings) has been initiated into the matter. Further investigation is on.
