Bookies all set to bet Rs 5000 cr in high-tension Ind-Aus semi-final

According to officials in Delhi Police, “It is going to be the highest betting stake ever in the history of any game. World’s eyes are set on this particular semi-final, especially with New Zealand entering the finals defeating South Africa.” Another source added, “So far, the betting amount invested in the semi-final between India and Australia is more than the betting amount fixed for the finals.”

Though, bookies are certain that Australia will prevail over India and New Zealand will win the World Cup 2015, in the current rate chart bookies are offering a 50:50 ratio.  “If a person bets for India’s win and invests Rs 1, he will get Rs 50 once India wins the match. On the other hand if Australia wins, he will give Rs 50 in return,” the source added. The betting will start from Rs 1000 onwards.

“The rates, however, keep changing and are decided on the day before the match, based on several factors including injury to any player, weather, pitch condition, etc,” the source said.

These days, the three American social media giants -- Facebook, Twitter and Google have emerged as a biggest platform for online betting in India. Cops are also trying to keep a vigil on suspicious comments and posts related to the semi-final.

Special teams have been formed to keep a tab on the movement of suspects. “Guest houses, hotels are the first two choices of punters and small-scale bookies. A close watch is being kept at these places,” said the official. Given the high stakes, many top bookies have left the state fearing police action and are functioning from Gujarat, Rajasthan and other parts of the country.

According to a source, who has busted many betting rackets in the recent times, “Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are being rated very highly by the bookies as far as best batsmen in the Indian team are concerned. For Australia, David Warner, Aaron Finch, Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Michael Clarke are being pegged at high value. Pacers Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson for Australia, while India’s Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohit Sharma are hot picks for the bookmakers as best bowlers.”
