Bodies of 20-yr-old & her minor daughter recovered from Munak Canal

However, family of the deceased, Hemlata and her daughter Pritika, have alleged that the mother-duo was murdered by Anil, Hemlata’s husband before their bodies were thrown in the Munak Canal. So far, police have detained Anil for questioning at the Narela police station.

According to a police officer privy to the investigation, the incident came to light at around 10:20 pm when Anil called Hemlata’s brother from an STD booth in the JJ Colony saying that their vehicle fell into the canal. “Hemlata and Pritika were inside the car. Anil told us that he had left his mobile phone at Hemlata’s house and hence he had to make the call to her brother from an STD booth,” said an investigating officer.

Calling Hemlata and Pritika’s deaths a foul play, a relative said that Anil and Hemlata often fought with each other and were not on good terms. Anil was having illicit relation with his sister-in-law. Due to this, they had frequent quarrels. Because of this reason, Hemlata had come to live with her parents in Nangal Kalan for the past one week. Anil called up Hemlata’s brother saying that he would come to pick her and their four-month-old daughter and take them back to Goga village.

“They (Anil, Hemlata and Pritika) left home at around 8:30 pm in the Omni van. Two hours later, we got a call that the car had fallen into the canal.”  Questioning why Anil took the canal route instead of the main road, a relative asked: “Why were their tyre marks near the canal? We are sure that Anil killed her and then pushed the vehicle into the canal,” added the relative.

Meanwhile, police said that prima facie, doctors told them that the mother-daughter died due to asphyxiation (death due to drowning). The officer said: “A team of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and crime team visited the spot to collect evidences. In the meantime, we are waiting for the final post-mortem report to establish the exact cause of death. Based on the report, relevant sections will be added.”
