Blistering heat sweeps India, claims over 65 lives

Searing heat intensified across the country with the mercury soaring and heat wave sweeping across large parts, claiming over 65 lives in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha.

Forty-three people have so far died due to hot weather conditions in Andhra Pradesh and <g data-gr-id="22">Telangana,</g> while in Odisha heat wave has claimed 23 lives. Temperature crossed 45° Celsius in many areas of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and <g data-gr-id="21">Telangana,</g> while northern states reeled under dry and hot weather conditions. 

In the national Capital, <g data-gr-id="18">mercury</g> shot up to 43.6° Celsius, the highest of this season. 

According to reports from Andhra Pradesh, 22 people have died due to the heat wave so far.  In Odisha, heat wave-like conditions prevailed in large parts forcing people to remain indoor and prompting the administration to take precautionary measures. According to officials, as many as 23 died allegedly due to <g data-gr-id="24">sun-stroke</g> in the state.

In Punjab and Haryana, <g data-gr-id="19">intense</g> heat wave swept across the two states with mercury soaring sharply in many areas. 

In West Bengal, the mercury crossed 40 degrees Celsius mark in many parts with <g data-gr-id="20">heatwave</g> blowing across the western part of the state. Two persons died reportedly due to hot weather conditions.
