BJP’s Poorvanchal workers miffed over Tiwari’s induction

The decision to include popular Bhojpuri singer Manoj Tiwari within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) doesn’t seem to have gone down too well with the party workers from Poorvanchal, constituted by leaders from east Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

According to political analysts, the absence of Poorvanchali leaders from the ceremony organised to mark the induction of Tiwari into BJP was an expression of the former’s displeasure over the move.

‘The party is being misguided and has therefore projected a celebrity face against the wishes of the hard workers who have invested decades for the party,’ said a senior Poorvanchali leader.

The community leaders have demanded around 14 seats in the upcoming Delhi assembly leaders and the party has assured them appropriate representation.

‘The party leaders have assumed that they can get the vote of the community by projecting Tiwari but the fact is that real party workers bring the votes,’ he added. The community controls around 14 assembly segments and has strong influence in over 30 other assembly segments in the city.

VP Pandey, co-incharge, of Poorvanchal Morcha in Delhi said that the party will fight in an united manner and ‘winnability’ would be the only criterion for selection of candidates.
