BJP urges L-G to call all party meet over water crisis

Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan on Saturday urged Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to convene an all party meeting before the onset of summer season and find out a solution to the problem of water scarcity during the period.

Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan also asked him to implement Summer Action Plan which is ‘always framed but never implemented’.

He also complained about the alleged tanker mafia in the national capital.

‘According to the data of DJB, only 60 per cent people of Delhi are supplied water by Delhi Jal Board. The rest of the people only depend on the tanker mafia and the private water suppliers,’ Vardhan also added.

‘In this meeting, the LG should also call former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and ask him on what grounds he had promised to supply around 680 litres of water per day to the Delhi’s residents,’ Vardhan said in a statement.

The BJP leader also claimed that Delhi residents are being served inflated water bills, and also in many areas they are not getting even drinking water.

‘During the Aam Aadmi Party rule, 100 complaints, on an average, were being received every day regarding the problem of water supply. Water plants also do not work to its full capacity at any time,’ Vardhan said.

The BJP leader, who is also candidate from Chandni Chowk constituency, also said that the government frames Summer Action Plan for water and power every year, but such plans are never implemented.

‘Governor should take serious steps to implement the Summer Action Plan,’ Vardhan demanded.
The total capacity of water treatment in Delhi is 747 mgd in seven water treatment plants- Chandrawal (90 mgd), Wazirabad (131 mgd), Haiderpur (216 mgd), Nangloi (40 mgd), Bawana (20 mgd), Bhagirathi (110 mgd) and Sonia Vihar (140 mgd). However the average drinking water production in city is 500-600 mgd as the plants never work to its full capacity.
